Texas business transfer preparation: where the course lists differ

Houston, Texas A&M College Station, Texas State and UNT list BUSI 2305 and BCIS 1305 as their business Field of Study electives. Texas Tech lists BUSI 2305 and MATH 1325. That difference is worth checking before you choose your next class.

Which business courses do the five lists share?

The published core and foundation contain six courses, each listed as three semester credits:

• ECON 2301 — Macroeconomics
• MATH 1324 — Business mathematics
• ECON 2302 — Microeconomics
• ACCT 2301 — Financial accounting
• ACCT 2302 — Managerial accounting
• BUSI 1301 — Business principles

These are the common published course codes used in this comparison. They do not establish equivalence for a similarly named course at a private or out-of-state college. See THECB’s business publication, page 1.

How do the destination electives differ?

BUSI 2305 is business statistics, BCIS 1305 is business computer applications, and MATH 1325 is business calculus. A course absent from this list may still satisfy another requirement at that university.

Why a course-list comparison is not an admission plan

A&M illustrates the difference. Its 2026–27 business transfer admission sheet requires MATH 1325 even though that course is not one of A&M’s two electives in the state list above. The sheet also lists a 3.80 minimum GPA and at least 24 transferable hours. Meeting minimum conditions does not guarantee admission.

UNT’s resource page has course-code discrepancies. CarryOver uses the state’s BUSI 2305 code; Dallas College’s 2026–27 UNT business guide also lists it. Confirm the intended course with UNT instead of treating an apparent typo as an equivalent.

Three questions to bring to advising

1. Which publication and catalog rules apply to my degree and transfer term?
2. Does my destination require additional admission prerequisites, minimum grades or a particular registration order?
3. How do these courses overlap the Texas Core, my completed work and the remaining degree requirements?
